“The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience.”
- Frank Herbert, 'Dune'
Welcome, to the home page of Marko Štajgár
The beginning
All my life I have been struggling with my addiction to soda and caffeine, and I always have been looking for a better alternative. Some time ago, I was staying overnight with my friend in his house, and I was introduced to the gongfu style of making tea, and I was mesmerized by the ritual. Since then, I embarked on my tea drinking journey and fell in love with the culture.
I have always loved artisan-made things like tachimori go board’s, so exploring all of the different kinds of teaware was a great experience. When I was younger, I loved pokemon and gormiti, so when I stumbled uppon Tea pet’s I at once knew that I had to start a collection, this really got me excited like a little child again. When I was done exploring, I chose a handmade tokomane clay Japanese-style teaware and a kyusu teapot. I may not be the most culturally appropriate tea drinker, but with my Japanese-style set, from the start I discovered that I have a taste mainly for sheng pu-erh and high-mountain oolongs.
The Path of the leaf
A beautiful poem, it may sound esoteric to a lot of people that haven’t properly and mindfully experienced the feeling of the so-called “Cha Zui”.
The first cup caresses my dry lips and throat.
The second shatters the walls of my lonely sadness.
The third searches the dry rivulets of my soul to find the stories of five thousand scrolls.
With the fourth the pain of life’s grievances evaporates through my pores.
The fifth bowl purifies my flesh and bones.
The sixth cup calls me to the realms of the immortals.
The seventh bowl could not be drunk, only the breath of the cool wind raises in my sleeves.
As I make my way to Penglai.
Lu T’ung, Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618-907)
Drinking tea can be much deeper than simply enjoying the drink. I’m not going to tell you how to make it properly because there is no right or correct way to do that. One can only find his own way to experiencing the sensations Lu T’ung describes.
For me, making tea mindfully, or in the so-called gongfu cha way, is the base of the practice. When I want to make tea, I try to reason why, and interestingly, I often discover that it is because I want to think, not like in a I want to get some homework done kind of way, I simply want to think and see what comes to my mind. Somehow I have asosiated gongfu tea making with the activity of simply thinking.
This almost magical plant can be in a lot of ways a life changer if you let it be a one. It is inherently good to think, and unfortunately in this day of age most people are eighter afraid or too lazy to try, if they were not, brainrot like TikTok and the great majority of modern media would not have the slightest chance to survive.
Making and experiencing tea creates the atmosphere, feeling, sensory experience and mood simply to be calm and think, and that is why it is important to me and what i love about it the most.
My personal trusted tea sellers & tea houses
These are my favourite sellers / teahouses that I trust and frequently visit:
Čajový ateliér (Teahouse)
On my first visit I got to enjoy a very generous portion of genuine gushu Laobanzhang, that is something that I never encountered anywhere else. Propably the best place to get a taste of the most rare, exotic and hard to find puerh teas in all of czech republic and even possibly all of europe. The owner is very nice, generous and loves to see genuine interest in gongfu tea culture. The athmosphere in the teahouse is one of a kind, aside from material things the knowledge one can aquire by simply lisening is for me a phenomenal cherry on top. Also lots of beatifull good quality yixing/tokoname/bizen teapots, teawares, artifacts and other interesting things.

- If you know what you are doing ask for a Laobanzhang, and dont forget to share with the staff and others :)
Meetea (Teashop/Teastudio)
A very recent find by myself at the time of writing, but after about of month of tasting their teas (mainly puerh and heicha) I have to say that they offer nothing but quality. The main interest for me are the non-yunnan produced puerh teas, as they open a whole new level of taste and experience. Aside from great puerh, they offer magnificent yancha and beatifull artisan made teaware and pottery. The tea studio is smaller and more personal, with friendly atmosphere and lots of room for talk and education. I like the place so much that I frequently visit on weekly basis.

Puerh.pl (Teashop)
A hidden gem in the teashop world like meetea, but this time unfortunately there is no physical place that one can visit. Their puerh is amazing and they also offer lots of artisan teaware. Definetly not a place for beginners tho, but under the assumption that one knows what one wants, in a place like that you can truly enjoy yourself to the fullest.

Favourites:
Nannuoshan.org (Teashop)
Their sourcing is very good, if you can think of any big name in the tea world they always have one in stock and in very good quality. Never had a tea from them that I didnt like, but their offer is a bit unexotic for my taste, which is not bad as their purpose in my point of view is to provide great quality mainstream big name tea, and that they do very well.

Teamountain (Teashop/Teahouse)
To go place for japanese tea, they also offer lots of good quality puerh and some hidden gems that I am very fond of. The store is definetly worth giving a shot, but the teahouse experience is not great, aside from good tea on the spot there is no noticable difference between making tea at home and in the shop. Overall they have great teas, I still havent found one that I can say is of bad quality and not worth trying.

Gushu Thượng Sơn, Hà Giang, Vietnam | Da Ye Zhong | Spring 2016 | Sheng Puerh | Natural in Hà Giang 2016–2018, “drier” (<70%) in Hanoi | One of the most special and colorfull gushu sheng puerh in my collection |
Thượng Sơn, Hà Giang, Vietnam | 2024 | Sheng Puerh | Propably (<70%) in Hanoi for a little | The most interesting tea i have had in a long time, the processing is par oolong, part sheng puerh, and the brew is really aromatic, the terroir lets itself be known through hints of raw cacao
Lao Banzhang Sheng Tai Ye Sheng Gu Shu Sheng Zhuan Cha - Laobanzhang, Yunnan, China | Da Ye Zhong | 2005 | Sheng Puerh | Wet storage (>80%) in Kuala Lumpur propably | The brick is a mix of Laobanzhang and other teas, propably the majority also comes from Bulanshan, but the hints of smoked wood and Laobanzhang umami are definitely there |

Mansong, Mengla, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China | Da Ye Zhong | Spring 2021 | Sheng Puerh | Natural if i had to guess | Hints of smoke, rose water and cooked peaches, after tasting it became quite obvious why this terroir was used for tribute teas |
Unknown Gushu - Yunnan, China | < 2005 | Sheng Puerh | 7 years Guanzhou, from then Kuala Lumpur | A tea that i have no information about but i dont realy care because the taste and chi is phenomenal, tastes 20 years older than it actualy is, the storage must have been quite ingenious
Ming Feng Shan, Yongde, Lincang, Yunnan, China | Da Ye Zhong | Spring and autumn 2022 | Shu Puerh | Natural if i had to guess
Da Xue Shan Qiao Mu Gushu - Da Xue Shan, Mengku, Lincang, Yunnan, China | Da Ye Zhong | 2011 | Shu Puerh | Wet storage (>80%) in Kuala Lumpur propably | Well aged milky-sweet shu puerh |
